Le président rwandais Paul Kagame, qui a multiplié les initiatives durant son année à la tête de l’Union africaine, a passé le témoin hier à l’Egypte, poids lourd régional en quête d’influence sur le continent, lors d’un sommet de l’organisation à Addis Abeba, en Éthiopie.

Le chef de l’Etat égyptien, Abdel Fattah al-Sissi, a officiellement pris la présidence tournante de l’Union africaine (UA) lors de la cérémonie d’ouverture du sommet, à Addis Abeba (Éthiopie), en insistant sur les « liens entre la mer Méditerranée et le lac Victoria ». L’Égypte souhaite profiter de son année à la tête de l’UA pour « renforcer sa position sur le continent africain et ne pas être considérée comme un pays tourné uniquement vers le monde arabe », souligne Liesl Louw-Vaudran (Institut pour les études sur la sécurité).
